Queens University — finished interior by Verto360

The project

From our original project portfolio.

St. Mary’s on the Lake in Kingston, Ontario was built in 1910 by The Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul as a Novitiate and Orphanage. It was commissioned by the Canadian military in 1941 and converted to a hospital. In 2017 the property and buildings were purchased by Queen’s University.

Being 113 years old and having suffered through several bouts of poor maintenance, the building was in need of some TLC. Floors were not level, with many perforations and many vertical surfaces were out of plumb.

In consultation with the architect, Verto360 was able to design and provide a modern glazing system for this multi-floor project. The 3D fly throughs with the client and architect helped all stakeholders to visualize what the future built out space would look and feel like. Changes and finish choices could be compared and considered prior to anything being manufactured.

With a 4-week lead time and efficient installation schedule using certified technicians Verto360 was able to install the glazing solution ahead of schedule while coordinating our efforts with all other trades.

Resulting in a blend of timeworn traditional appeal along side a crisp clean modern aesthetic.

The most sustainable buildings are the ones we don’t have to demolish to build what we need today and tomorrow.
